✨Lab Rat Confessions & the Return of Sacred Hair Care
Before anything hits the shelf at Narayan Beauty, it goes through extensive, exhausting research & rigorous testing and by rigorous, I mean me. I’m the lab rat. Along with a few brave friends and co-conspirators, we test every formula through seasons, cycles, And yes, I’ve absolutely resorted to bags of frozen veggies on my face, just to cool it down and stop the burning. And I’ll confess: back in my farmers market days, I’d show up with what I hoped was a final product, let real-life feedback roll in, and tweak accordingly. Call it field research. Call it beauty bootcamp. Either way, nothing’s rushed, and everything’s earned.
Now, let’s talk hair.
The hair care industry is (finally) going through a renaissance. And it’s about time. I’ve resisted making a shampoo and conditioner duo for years—even though I’ve been begged. Why? Because I didn’t want to make just another bottle of suds. I believe hair care should evolve toward working with the hair we have, not forcing it into submission with chemicals, heat, or trend cycles. No offense, but I’m not a Teletubby—I don’t want neon pink hair. (Pink is one of my favorite colors, but still.)
My own hair has had a full-on identity crisis over the years. It started off straight, except for a stubborn kink in the back (which I pretended didn’t exist because I couldn’t see it). Then, around 30, it decided to get curly. Over the years I have had short jet-black flat top in the ’80s, big wild curls in the ’90s. And now? I’ve got a silver streak at the crown, rich brown with hints of red, maybe even gold (or is that just more grey pretending to be fancy?). The texture? All over the place, some curls, some waves, some frizz and a few strands that refuse to commit to anything.
As you may know, I grew up in a beauty salon, my father was a hairdresser and salon owner. Hair has a permanent seat at the table of my life. I even got kicked out of beauty school once. That’s a story for another time, but let’s just say: if there’s a pointless rule, I’m the one who challenges it. They don’t love being called out on their laziness. And if you’ve ever been inside a beauty school… don’t. Just don’t.
But all that aside, here’s what I’ve come to believe: Hair care should be a ritual, not a routine.
Long before the age of hair “products,” there were tonics—infused oils, botanical waters, and herbal rinses used not just for shine or scalp health, but for beauty as a sacred act. The Egyptians massaged castor oil and frankincense into their crowns. Ayurvedic traditions used bhringraj and amla under moonlight. Lavender water once rinsed away more than just dirt—it cleared the mind and the spirit.
And hydrosols? These fragrant plant waters were once used to anoint the scalp, cool the nervous system, and bring the body back to balance. They’re not just gentle, they’re deeply intelligent. This is the lineage I draw from.
So no, I didn’t want to make a shampoo and conditioner combo until I knew it could be more than “clean.” I wanted it to be sacred.
Another confession as a lab rat , I’ve stopped shampooing altogether. Not out of rebellion (okay, maybe a little), but, what started as an experiment, is what I’ve found as a completely new~yet ancient~way of relating to my hair. One rooted in attention, nourishment, and ritual rather than foam and stripping agents.
A few months ago, I introduced HairdroSoul, originally intended as a “wet dry shampoo”~a plant-based reset for the scalp. But it’s become so much more. When paired with True Divine Nature, my multi-use hair, face, and body oil, and a natural boar bristle paddle brush, something clicked. My hair started thriving. The texture softened, the wild bits harmonized, and the crown felt... cared for.
And I must confess: I’ve watched more than a few (okay, a lot) of hair tutorials on the ‘Gram. It’s been inspiring to see the younger generation embracing ancient beauty rituals with their own modern twist. The return of heatless curling, using socks, ribbons, or soft rollers to coax waves from damp or dry hair, feels like a nod to my grandmother’s “rag curls.” There’s braiding, twisting, wrapping, and sleeping with the magic in motion. These aren’t trends~they’re remembrances.
This is the new era of hair care. Not just clean, but conscious. Not just styled, but sacred.
✨ My Hair Ritual (2–3x a Week)
A few times a week, I give my hair the attention it deserves. Here’s my current ritual:
Step 1: Dry Brushing
A thoroughly brush my hair ,I start by brushing out all tangles and debris, yes debris. The garden has a way of clinging to me, especially in my hair. I take my time. This is an act of care
I use a large boar bristle paddle brush, it distributes your scalp’s natural oils from root to tip, creating shine and softness without synthetic products. It also gently exfoliates the scalp, stimulating circulation and supporting healthy hair growth~a simple tool with ancient wisdom.
Step 2: Scalp Massage & Shake Loose
I give my scalp a vigorous massage to loosen up dirt, buildup, and stagnant energy. It's not just about cleaning~this brings circulation, life, and light to the roots. use those healing hands !
Step 3: Hydrosol Saturation
I saturate my scalp with HairdroSoul, my herbal hair hydrosol. with Lavender & Rosemary from the garden and some Ormusgold, I massage it in, letting the plant intelligence seep in clearing my mind & my aura. Then I brush through again.
Use as much as feels right—some days I mist just the scalp, other days I dampen all my hair.
Step 4: Oil Infusion
Then comes True Divine Nature with Castor Oil, Sandalwood oil Frankincense, Rosewood are a few of the herbal notes in my hair/face/body oil. I use 2–4 pumps (I have a lot of hair!) and focus on the ends and mid-lengths. Just a touch goes on the scalp.
Then I brush it through gently one more time.
Step 5: Protective Style & Rest
Finally, I braid, twist, or roll my hair up for the night.
No heat. No stress. Just nourishment and love.
In the morning, I shake out my waves~et voilà!
We’re in a hair renaissance!. And we want our crowns to look the part~like a Botticelli painting met a wildflower meadow. Soft, shiny, untamed, sacred.
The Deeper Brew (Every Couple of Weeks) Every couple of weeks, I go deeper.
I brush thoroughly, massage my scalp, saturate with HaridroSoul, and oil up with True Divine Nature from roots to tips. Then I let it brew overnight—like a sacred infusion for my crown. In the morning, I rinse in the shower with water only.

This ancient way of working with my hair feels so vibrant and clean ~My Hair has never been so shiny & lustrous ~Like my 20s came back, wearing wisdom and rose oil. Old soul. New glow.
Find your rhythm. Make it yours.
Ritual tip: You don’t need to treat these hair products like they are toxic to your face.
PS ~Both of the beauty blends (HairdroSoul + True Divine Nature)? They’re face-friendly, crown-worthy, and ritual-approved. Slather, smooth, glow. It’s all connected.
