Your Cosmology

An Astroscope by Narayan

What if someone handed you a map of your life? Not a prediction. A roadmap: one that shows how to travel the terrain, the emotional climbs, the dark stretches, the open road. You'd still get surprises. Every good road trip has them. But you'd travel with less fear and more ease, and enjoy those sunrises and sunsets just a bit more.

This week we're stepping out of forecasting and into something I've been working toward for years. Long ago I worked as a healer in the wellness center at Golden Bridge Yoga, in the heart of Hollywood, where world-famous healers and astrologers came through the doors. One afternoon I stood in the middle of the room and said to one of those astrologers: give me a roadmap. I know I have champagne taste on a beer budget. I know I'm slow to move. I need more than characteristics. There's a map in here, and no one is reading it. I knew it was there. I just couldn't read it yet, and frankly, neither could they. They'd been trained in systems that look from a different perspective, which is, well, all of them.

Some months ago I woke to a morning vision of cogs, every planet's path pinned to one moment, turning like the gears inside an old watch. And a voice said: these are the planets in motion. Map them. They are the making of time itself. Of course, I went on a deep dive into the Sumerians and how they mapped the planets. These visions spring from my heart, and they awaken the knowledge held within. As I research, it activates more knowledge that comes through my heart. It works inside out and outside in, and it's one more reason to do the Gold Heart Meditation.

Here's what I've come to see. Each of us is our own universe. The moment you arrived on this Earth, in that spot, at that time, a spark came in as spirit, because of how the planets were lined up with you and moving through your glandular system, the core of your energy system. That set your journey in motion. Your ruling planet is the rhythm of that journey, the gateways and the lessons you're here to learn, and it moves through your heart, your glands and your energy for the rest of your life.

Every planet has its own unique journey. It goes into the dark, into retrograde, crosses here and there, and moves in its own rhythm. This is the roadmap I was shown. One afternoon I was struck by my own journey. I was seeing these 8-year cycles and 16-year cycles, and how I go dark, into deep dismantling, and then literally come out the other side. I thought, hmm. Again, the heart springing forth information. And then: wait, I'm ruled by Venus. Venus goes into the dark in her own way and comes back out, and every time she does, she strips away what isn't working so I come out changed. Every planet does this for the people it rules.

This isn't about what will happen to you. It's about what the planets, and Mother Nature with them, are asking of you, and how to move with them instead of against them. That's your cosmology. So, who's your ruler?

The Sun

Rules Leo

The Sun is the one light that never turns back. Day after day it climbs, rising a little further north each morning toward the long light of summer, then sinking south toward the shortest day of winter, and turning to climb again. That is its whole year: the solstices and equinoxes, the steady wheel of seasons. But the Sun still goes into the dark. Every single night it passes beneath the Earth, out of sight, and every morning it comes back up. The Sun's journey is keeping your light burning through the dark, whether anyone is watching or not. It lives in the heart, the steady drum that keeps time for the whole body. Leo is born to be seen, and the Sun teaches Leo that the fire has to burn just as bright in an empty room.

Its mandala. The Sun draws the simplest shape in the sky: one clean ring around us each year, marked by the solstices and equinoxes, the wheel of the year itself. But watch it at the same hour every day for a year and it traces a figure eight, a slow infinity loop hung in the sky. That's the Sun's movement: steady, forward, never reversing, and still drawing a sacred shape.

The Moon

Rules Cancer

The Moon makes the whole descent every month. From the first thin sliver she grows night by night to full, pours her light over everything, then wanes back down until she disappears. For a night or two she's simply gone, the dark moon, and then the sliver returns and it all begins again, every 29 and a half days. She is also the fastest traveler in the sky, passing through every sign in under a month. Her journey is that change is not loss. You're allowed to wax and wane, to be full and then empty, and to trust the dark nights instead of panicking in them. She moves the body's fluids and inner tides the way she moves the ocean. Cancer gives and holds and feeds, and the Moon teaches Cancer to let the tide go all the way out so it can come back full.

Her mandala. The Moon circles us about thirteen times a year, and each circle is a full mandala of light: a sliver, a half, a full round face, a half, a sliver, then dark. She never turns backward. Instead she breathes, filling and emptying, and every 19 years her full moons come back to the very same dates on the calendar, closing her larger circle.

Mercury

Rules Gemini and Virgo

Mercury is the quickest planet and never strays far from the Sun. You catch it only briefly, low in the sky just after sunset or just before dawn, darting from one side of the Sun to the other. Three or four times a year it slows, stops and runs backward for about three weeks, slipping into the Sun's glare before it turns forward again. That's the Mercury retrograde everyone dreads. But Mercury isn't breaking your plans. It's asking you to go back and look again, to rewrite what wasn't true the first time. The struggle comes from your will insisting on its way. Mercury moves the nervous system, the wiring that carries every message in the body. Gemini lives it through breath and quick thinking, and Virgo through the gut that sorts what's useful from what isn't, and both learn to slow down long enough to say the true thing.

Its mandala. Mercury loops three times a year, and the loops land roughly a third of the way around the sky from each other. Seen from Earth, its path draws a tight three-pointed star, a quick little triangle of loops that slowly turns as the years go by. It's the busiest, most tightly woven mandala of all, the shape of a mind that keeps circling back.

Venus

Rules Taurus and Libra

Venus is the brightest light in the sky after the Sun and Moon. For months she shines as the evening star, then she slows, turns backward and passes between the Earth and the Sun, closer to us than any other planet ever comes, and completely invisible. She returns before dawn as the morning star. She makes this descent every 19 months, and five of them draw a five-petaled rose across the sky every eight years. The oldest sky-watchers told it as a journey through seven gates, giving something up at each one until she stood bare, then rising again changed. Her journey is surrendering what you wear to become who you are. She moves the reproductive glands, what you create and desire. Taurus walks her road like the bull it is, holding on until the gate pries it loose, while Libra walks it negotiating, trying to keep everyone's peace until it learns that balance means standing level on its own ground.

Her mandala. Venus draws the most perfect shape in the sky. Each loop lands about two-fifths of the way around from the last, so five loops trace the five points of a star, and over eight years her path becomes a five-petaled rose. Every eight years the rose closes and she's back where she began, almost to the day.

Mars

Rules Aries and Scorpio

Mars runs on a two-year rhythm. For long months it sits small and faint, far across the solar system, and for a while it disappears behind the Sun altogether. Then, about every two years, the Earth catches up to it. Mars swells, burns red and bright all night long, and turns backward for two months or more before moving on and fading again. Its journey is fire meeting the dark: the surge, the fight, and then the moment the fight goes out of you and you find out what you were really fighting for. Strength comes from what you join, not what you destroy. Mars moves the adrenals, the body's heat and drive. Aries charges every gate at full speed and learns to aim its fire, while Scorpio already lives close to the dark and learns that its power doesn't need to stay hidden.

Its mandala. Mars makes one big loop about every two years, and each one lands about a seventh of the way further around the sky. Over about 15 years, seven wide loops form a flower with seven open petals, and then the pattern begins again. It's a wild, wide mandala, the loops swinging close and far, the shape of fire that surges and pulls back.

Jupiter

Rules Sagittarius and Pisces, and Ophiuchus in the 13-sign sky

Jupiter moves slow and wide, spending about a year in each sign and taking twelve years to circle the whole sky. Once a year it slips behind the Sun for about a month, and once a year, when the Earth passes it, it turns backward for about four months in a long, generous loop, shining its brightest. Every twelve years it comes back to where it stood when you were born. Its journey is growth that begins in chaos: the frame you've been living in gets too small, falls apart, and you build a bigger life from the pieces. Jupiter moves the liver, the organ that clears and rebuilds. Sagittarius chases the far horizon until the road runs out, Pisces floats in the deep waters until it finds the shore, and Ophiuchus, the healer, drinks the poison and becomes the medicine.

Its mandala. Jupiter makes one loop a year, each one a little further around the sky. In the twelve years it takes to come home, it draws eleven loops evenly spaced around a great ring, like the petals of a lotus opening all the way around. Generous and wide, the shape of growth.

Saturn

Rules Capricorn and Aquarius

Saturn is the slowest light the eye can see. It spends about two and a half years in each sign and takes 29 and a half years to circle the whole sky. Each year it disappears behind the Sun for a few weeks, and each year it turns backward for about four and a half months, a small, heavy loop. Every 29 years it comes back to where it stood the day you were born, the Saturn return everyone feels around 29, again near 58, and again near 88. Its journey is that what broke you becomes what you build on. Saturn strips away whatever was built on sand so you can build something that lasts. It moves the bones and the body's slow structure. Capricorn carries the weight in its knees and learns to stop holding up what was never its to hold, while Aquarius carries it in the flow of the whole system and learns that structure exists to serve the river.

Its mandala. Saturn makes one small loop a year, and in the 29 and a half years it takes to come home it draws twenty-eight or twenty-nine of them, tightly spaced around a huge ring. Its mandala looks like a crown, or a great gear with fine teeth, slow and heavy and exact. Every tooth is a year of your life.

Where I Am on My Own Road

I'm 64 now, halfway to 65, and there are big changes on the horizon. That's what got me looking at all of this. Those changes include Narayan Beauty, and there's a lot coming in 2027 that I'm preparing for now. I think I've been in a bit of a life review, and I think a lot of us have. You look back on your journey and say, wait a minute. That's when I caught these 8-year cycles and thought, what is this? Then came the cogs, the vision, and the research I had to dive into. This new view of astrology is part of what's coming in 2027.

The characteristics we've all been handed, the stubborn bull, the moody crab, were written by people, and they're only about a century and a half old. Our astrology, like everything else, needs deeper dives and a new set of eyes.

What I'm bringing you comes from my heart and soul, and you have that same capacity to tap into your own ancient wisdom. I'm going to go out on a limb here: move past your ancestors. You lived here before. You have the knowledge. It's written in your soul, in the sacred space of your heart. That's why I gave you the Gold Heart Meditation, so you can bring forth the ancient wisdom that's been hidden in your body all along.

I'm only bringing forth what I was guided to bring forth. You have that too. It's up to us. Don't wait for the powers that be to hand down disclosure. We are the disclosure. It's in our bodies.

Find your ruler. That's where your road begins. And stay awake: sometime in 2027, maybe sooner, I'll be dropping a whole new view of astrology, the Astroscope Wheel, where you'll see where your ruling planet stood the day you arrived, and where it's leading you now.
